Our Pop Shop America Recap

Brian Barr

A little over a week ago Data Design Co_ had the pleasure of participating in the Black Friday edition of the Pop Shop America Festival. A three-day celebration of craft, we were impressed as always by the array of Houston makers present as well as the support of the community that came out and shopped and celebrated with us.

This year we returned with a larger booth and were able to capitalize on some of the lessons from our first time at Pop Shop. We realized that our time spent talking with customers and getting feedback on our ideas was perhaps the most valuable aspect of the weekend. By creating a small lounge area in our booth stocked with DDCo_ products and prototypes as well as interesting books on data visualization we were able to accentuate that portion of our Pop Shop experience. For those of you who are future vendors, we can't recommend this type of customer interaction enough.

Always a good time, this year's pop shop was particularly fun for participants and vendors alike as the music was vibrant and the weather nice practically the entire weekend. A headlining performance from Austin's The Octopus Project was especially whimsical and exuberant, drawing larger than usual crowds for the closing hours of the festival on Saturday. A fashion show, crafts with TX/RX, and drinks from Double Trouble and Buffalo Bayou Brewing further added to the festive atmosphere. We even brought a giant spirograph to bring everyone back to their childhood.

Thank you to all of you who stopped by and said hello this past weekend, and special thanks to Brittany Bly and the team for such a great Pop Shop weekend. We look forward to seeing you all at the next one.
